Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture Tchiakovsky Brass Ensemble - Digital Sheet Music

Why not Romeo & Juliet. In the Frank Wright days of orchestral transcriptions certain things already had to be in place with the work itself, key or transpose-ability, tesssitura, time length, and over all technical difficulty. All these had to be weighed out before pen hit paper. Out of the many overtures we know transcribed for brass band we know they work and are playable, hard in the days, but easier now. This wasn’t so with Romeo & Juliet all the clauses above weighed against it, but there was one attempt I believe but fell foul for some of the reasons. But here we are now in the 21st C of banding, pieces now written for band are frightening in terms of technical ask. So in 2003 I wanted to fill the rep with the greatest missing overture of all time standing at 16 minutes with the best known tune in the business. One aspect of my score is that the Euph's and basses all have their own separate parts to dovetail in fast semiquaver passages and extended long notes. Indeed a labour of love it took me some weeks, and yet as far as I know, no band has taken it on. It seems these days that commitment of this input is only given to the contest & the test piece (am I wrong?). So there you have it a 19th C Overture of great fame for the 21st C band.
