Composed by English traditional music. Arranged by Dorothy van Joolen Barth. Classical,Contemporary,Folk,Standards,Wedding. 3 pages. Dorothy van Joolen Barth #14405. Published by Dorothy van Joolen Barth (A0.784996).
The Princess's Court is an English Country Dance tune that made its first appearance in the supplement to the 11th edition (11A) of Playford's Dancing Master, which was published in 1702. I've composed a second part for this tune so that it can be played on two violins or flute (recorder) and violin. Flute/recorder players can simply omit the lower note of the double stops in measures 31, 47, and 48. In the audio sample provided here, this tune is played on tenor recorder and violin. The structure is AA'BB'; the repeats are written out, with minor variations. The lower part takes the melody on B'. I've recommended some slurs to give this music a gentle quality; if played as a violin duo, the violinist may wish to add additional slurs and bowings. I've also added some trills, divisions, and alteration to the melody in the second iteration of the B theme. The Princess's Court makes a unique wedding processional. If used for the bridesmaids' processional, it could combine effectively with The Princess, with the latter used for the bride's processional. The Princess's Court will be enjoyed by the student looking for an enchanting recital piece that is not out of reach for the young violinist.
