Through the introduction of my Singaporean friend Steven Phua, I came to know and have built a deep connection with the Yishun Primary School Concert Band. Their conductor, Faizal Bin Othman, is one of the most frequent performers of my works in Singapore.
As commissions for this band, I have composed three consecutive pieces: A New Beginning, INSPIRE! - Journey of a Child's Dream, and Bloom - The Gift of Spring. These compositions have become well-loved repertoire for small ensemble bands, both in Japan and internationally.
This work is the fourth installment in the series, continuing the same theme of supporting the younger generation as they overcome hardships and challenges to move toward a hopeful future. It is a dramatic and inspiring composition. For its publication, the piece has been revised to make it accessible to even more bands by requiring fewer players than the previous three works in the series.
I hope this piece will not only serve as a free selection for concerts or competitions but also as a training piece to nurture expressive musicality.
