Gabriel Fauré's "Requiem" is the key work among the French master’s sacred compositions. The work was already a success amoung audiences during the composer’s lifetime and remains so to this day. Due to the lack of an authentic autograph, a new edition of the work has to face a double challenge: on the one hand, loyalty to the surviving, often contradictory sources and, on the other, the reproduction of a musically coherent musical text.
