Remembrance for solo tuba was composed in 1995. It was commissioned by John Tuinstra, Instructor of Low Brass and Asst. Band Director at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, in memory of his friend and colleague, Jerry Bramblett.
The music is meant to reflect aspects of Jerry Bramblett’s personality as well as the emotions he felt as he battled the cancer that prematurely ended his life.
Contemplation, joy, anger and
resignation are depicted. The work ends with a multi-phonic "chorale" representing eternal peace and,
finally, the tolling of the "bell"
ending this life and beginning the next.
