Rememberrance (12 Meditations for Piano)
After Dr. Dockery's album of hymn arrangements, I had eagerly awaited the publication of this second book. It definitely does not disappoint!! These are original compositions, each one a small gem of emotive character. The titles give the musician a very good idea about the tone of each piece. As joyous and lively as the hymn arrangements of the first volume were, in contrast these works take on a much more meditative spirit. They evoke feelings of gentleness, thoughtfulness, mental meandering. The driving rhythms of the hymn arrangements become the unhurried pulses carrying each piece along. Dr. Dockery's special take on harmony expresses itself in these pieces in calm and quiet progression. This volume offers genuine delight from cover to cover. While several of the pieces are approachable for intermediate ability, I selected intermediate/advanced because of some technical and rhythmic intricacies and also because of the call to more mature expression of emotion.
