Quintessence by Quincy Jones Concert Band - Digital Sheet Music

By Quincy Jones

Quincy Jones (1933–2024) was a record producer, songwriter, composer, arranger, and film and television producer. Over the course of his seven-decade career, he received many accolades including 28 Grammy Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award and a Tony Award as well as nominations for seven Academy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards. Jones came to prominence in the 1950s as a jazz arranger and conductor before producing pop hit records for Lesley Gore in the early 1960s (including "It's My Party", which he also wrote) and serving as an arranger and conductor for several collaborations between Frank Sinatra and Count Basie. He released his album 'The Quintessence' with his orchestra in 1962; one critic called it "the sound of the modern, progressive big band at its pinnacle." The opening (title) track featured Phil Woods on alto saxophone and introduces the lush sound of the whole orchestra, essentially a large jazz band with orchestral instruments including horns, tuba and harp. This arrangement has been made in memory of Quincy Jones, featuring a transcription of a solo by Dan Higgins and based on a jazz ensemble arrangement co-written by Sammy Nestico.
