By Taco. Composed by Irving Berlin. Arranged by P. R. Frederick. This edition: pdf. Film/TV, Pop, Standards. Individual part. 2 pages. P. R. Frederick #1414017. Published by P. R. Frederick (A0.1854379).“Puttin’ On the Ritz” is a famous Irving Berlin song, written in 1927 and first published in 1929. It became widely known through the 1930 musical film of the same name and later through Fred Astaire’s and Taco’s versions.
Musically, the song is notable for its unusual rhythmic drive and AABA structure, which critics have praised as especially inventive. It also helped make Berlin one of the defining songwriters of the era.
Here’s a lively cello solo arrangement of this classic tune.
