Jimi Hendrix's 1967 hit "Purple Haze" was featured on the debut album of the Jimi Hendrix Experience and introduced listeners around the world to the brilliant guitarist's unique psychedelic rock sound. A fan of science fiction, Hendrix said the song was inspired by Night of Light, a 1966 novel by Philip José Farmer set on a distant planet where sunspots produce a "purplish haze" that has an intoxicating effect on its inhabitants. Whatever the inspiration, the slow-paced, relentlessly driving accompaniment provided a perfect platform for Hendrix's wildly inventive guitar solos. This arrangement for string quartet has all the grinding rhythmic intensity that made the song one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll." The file includes the full score and all four parts.
