This is an arrangement of no. 3 of Sergei Rachmaninov's sublime "All-night Vigil", "Psalm 1: Blessed is the Man". Most of the music in the vigil is, unfortunately, out of reach for most church choirs, since it places huge vocal demands on the singers and multiple divisi. Not all of the pieces in the vigil can be reduced to a reasonably satisfying SATB arrangement, but a few of them do. This SATB arrangement of Psalm 1, "Blessed is the man," retains most of the color of the original and, more importantly, puts this beautiful music within reach of many more choirs. I have left out the doxology, which is appropriate only for the Liturgy of the Hours.
