'Prologue' is the score for the opening sequence of Disney's animated classic, Beauty and the Beast (1991). In homage to the Disney fairytale adaptations which came before it, the film opens with a storybook narration "Once Upon a Time, in a far away land..." in which the audience is visually transported through a forest to an enchanted castle, where a Prince has been transformed by an Enchantress into a Beast. The Prologue musical motif was inspired by French composer Saint-Saëns (Le carnaval des animaux - Aquarium, 1886) and is featured throughout the film's underscore in both major and minor key renditions.
Beauty and the Beast (1991) score garnered Alan Menken his second set of 2 Academy Awards (best original score and best original song), with many more Oscar winnings to follow. Orchestrations for Beauty and the Beast were done by Danny Troob, elevating Menken’s modern Broadway sensibility with rich, symphonic textures.
This arrangement for solo piano is a reduction of the full orchestra, and is suited for Intermediate pianists. Chords are marked throughout.
