A primula is a flower that blooms in the spring. I was inspired by this dainty little flower to compose a piece with a fresh and bright atmosphere. I tried to make the music easy to play, yet strove to compose a string sound with thick harmonies. I hope that the young players in the orchestra will feel and experience the sounds and vibrations of these harmonies even if they play only one part. By special request I included an optional part for the harp in this piece. It is my hope that the harp’s sound will project a sensation of a unique, but familiar smell of spring. This piece was commissioned by the Symphonetta Strings of the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra in celebration of their 45th anniversary.
