A Dialogue Across Centuries: Bach’s Cello Prelude Reimagined for String Orchestra
Arranged by Flávio Régis Cunha

There are moments in music when time seems to stand still — when the first notes invite not just listeners, but souls. One such moment begins with the resonant open G of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Prélude from Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1007. For centuries, this timeless masterpiece has been a rite of passage for cellists and a treasure for audiences.

But now, something new begins…

In this captivating arrangement for Cello Solo and String Orchestra, Brazilian conductor and composer Flávio Régis Cunha dares to ask a question:
What if the cello didn’t play alone?
What if the orchestra gently joined the conversation?

A New Chapter for a Beloved Classic
This isn’t a reinvention — it’s a reverent expansion. The original prelude remains untouched in its purity, sung by the solo cello. Around it, the string orchestra breathes, listens, and responds — creating a musical dialogue that feels both fresh and faithful.

Whether you’re conducting a university chamber group, a church string ensemble, or leading a community orchestra, this arrangement will open new expressive doors for your players. It’s ideal for:

Concerts – Offer your audience a familiar piece in a new and deeply emotional setting.
Weddings – Fill sacred spaces with elegance, intimacy, and grace.
Educational settings – Give students the opportunity to perform Baroque repertoire with modern ensemble collaboration.
Theater and interdisciplinary arts – Use this meditative texture as a backdrop to storytelling, movement, or visuals.

Arrangement Highlights

Solo Cello retains every original note of Bach’s masterpiece.
