There is little doubt from the title that this is not one of my "happier" compositions. It has a folksong quality to the melody and depicts the trials and tribulations of not one person, but a whole society as they pass on their story/history through song. While there are brief glimpses of hope, they are soon shattered by the cruelties of reality. I drew my inspiration for this piece from the great John Williams and his theme from "Schindler's List." It was a powerful movie and I found the score to be incredibly moving (as is true of so much of his work).
