Prelude Op. 5, No. 12: The Fortune Teller Piano Solo - Digital Sheet Music

This is number twelve in the series of intermediate preludes. The setting of this piece is similar to that of “Under the Big Top:” The Circus or Carnival. As you wander through the grounds, you spot the sign for the Fortune Teller. You are drawn in by the mystery of knowing your future, though you enter with more than a bit of skepticism. The room is dimly lit, and in the very center is a table with a crystal ball setting on it, behind which sits the seer. She motions for you to take a seat. After lightning some candles and incense, she begins to gaze into the orb, rocking back and forth (as depicted in the music).Whether from the incense or the heat of the tent, you start to feel dizzy as she speaks of that which appears to her. There is a great journey, not without its dangers, and a love that will be found after overcoming many obstacles. She sees the possibility of great wealth, but warns against the pitfalls of greed and miserliness.Against your better judgment you become caught up in the tale she is spinning, but when you ask for greater details and clarification the future becomes cloudy and the visions dissipate. She sits back and with a weary sigh, tells you there is no more she can reveal to you. The smoke and the heat begin to subside and you step back into the light of day, realizing you learned nothing of any actual worth…but it was entertaining.
