The Inspiration
The music is an impressionistic work based on a landscape painting by Joanne Springfield Longley. The painting, which is the first page of this piece, depicts the field where she grew up as a young woman and which is now the location of our home. A beautiful piece of art capturing the forest as the sun set in East Derry, NH.
The Music
Composed in 1985 which beyond its inspiration from the painting was clearly influenced by Debussy's "La cathédrale engloutie". The recording is from 1987 with the composer performing at a small college in New Hampshire.
