Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862681).Of all the GetaWay Editions Rachmaninoff preludes, this one has been simplified more radically than any of the others. The 5 against 4 accomp has been changed to straight 1/8 notes. The majorly obscure rhythms in the melody have been rendered in very equivalent but decipherable terms. The major sections are all intact, otherwise, and the LH has been simplified, but not to the point of pedantry. So, this piece serves as a fine introduction to this part of the repertoire, at an earlier point in one's pianistic and musical development. Full-length, original key, of course. Horowitz played the piece many times throughout his later years, so we offer it as both a tribute to him, and and introduction to his unique melodic artistry for less experienced players. MBB.
