Wachet Auf is a popular piece for the first Sunday of Advent. This Prelude based on the old hymn tune, Bristol, is intended principally for use on the second Sunday of Advent. Our church music group has always played it in this arrangement, ie. with a flute solo, cello playing the continuo bass and various members of the band supplying the chorale, which appears from time to time through the piece. The obligato part could be played by a violin instead of a flute, and I will shortly provide a version for clarinet.
