Kids love that they can relate to the song lyrics, tunes are super simple, and as a teacher I like that I can easily transition from these books into a Primer of most older method books with the kids having a solid theory foundation. I would recommend this book for little fingers and students that are excited to get into music early. They don't lose their motivation by being overwhelmed, and they do have fun and learn concepts they will need later.

This is a book full of black key only songs and is great for really young beginners. I've used this book with 3 and 4 year olds who are just starting out. There is a section for each group of keys (2 or 3) and each hand. There are no notes (quarter, half, whole, etc). Instead there is a picture of the black keys showing which finger should be playing on which key for every note. It is a great introduction to helping a child find their way around a piano and starting working on finger dexterity.I would recommend pairing this book with Theory Made Fun which introduces lots of musical concepts complete with songs, (to sing/listen to), pictures and activities.

I was lucky enough to get some early copies of piano made fun while it was still in publishing mode. I used the materials to teach group piano classes and have used it in private lessons. This method really does make learning the piano fun! I love how quickly it gets kids to read on the staff and how well it teaches counting, theory and notes. After teaching for 12 years, I still use piano made fun and am so happy it is in publication! Couldn't recommend it more!
