Composed by Brian Streckfus. Arranged by Brian Streckfus. This edition: pdf. Instructional, Singer/Songwriter. Theory Worksheet. 44 pages. Brian Streckfus #1245998. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1680725).
Pages: 44 (130+ chord diagrams)
Learning chords one at a time (perhaps in songs) could lead to a slow, confusing, inconsistent, overly redundant memorization of chords. This pdf is designed to streamline the process by making movable shapes that are easy to change to any key. This is a great pdf for learning just about every chord in every position on guitar. As with many of my publications, I try to make music theory more fun, approachable, and practical for guitar, as it can easily be the opposite. Most theory books approach things as if everyone is a piano player, but that can be super frustrating as a guitarist since a piano voicing has a high likelihood of being impossible or impractical to play on guitar.
Features: - Dark mode and print friendly versions. Memorable hand-written font. Just don't forget your printer settings! - Sheet music that shows practical for guitar and perfectly in-order theory (simple to understand theory that is not limited by the nature an instrument or fingers). - Roots of chords highlighted so that it is intuitive to change key Am7 -> Bm7 by scooting the chord up or down to that letter name. - Occasionally I will show what I like to call the "gravity" of notes with red arrows pointing to the very next fret. This is because of a strong tendency to resolve to that note. You don't have to though of course, and not resolving can be poetic word painting. Also, you could resolve the tendency tone, and change other notes to be more bizarre, and that would create a deceptive and suprising resolution (great way to suprise an audience with a sudden emotion).
List of Chords: Major (small/large) minor (small/large) Augmented diminished sus4/add4 sus2/add2 7 (small/large) maj7 (small/large) m7 (small/large) m(maj7) dim7 halfdim7 9 7b9 7#9 m11 13
Tips: 1. Some chords have very similiar construction. Em11 is very similiar to Esus4, especially because guitarists can run out of fingers and strings, so we have to compromise and try to do a fancy chord with 4 notes rather than 7. C9 is very similiar to Cadd9. It's usually just a difference of just how jazzy do you want to sound?
