The following music tutor is intended to give the classical guitar student a more organized method of learning to read in the upper positions of the instrument. It was written with the young student in mind, but can certainly be used by students of all ages. As a teacher of young students, I became aware of a need for materials that assisted students in exploring the upper regions of the fretboard. Out of necessity, I began creating student and teacher duets that introduced my students to the upper regions of the guitar in a more systematic way.
For the purpose of brevity and practicality, I have limited the study to positions two, four, five, seven, and nine, with the understanding that the student is already familiar with first position.
These are the positions that are most common in beginning to intermediate classical guitar music. The book is divided into two sections. First, the study of various positions concentrating
on strings one, two, and three. This allows for easier stretches for smaller hands. Section two revisits those same positions, this time focusing on strings four, five, and six. At the same time, section two includes reading on the first three strings for review. It is assumed that the student has a basic knowledge of rest stroke, plus familiarity with the more common rhythmic figures.
I hope that both the teacher and student enjoy this book of music, and find it musically and educationally rewarding.

Ce volume a pour but d'offrir aux étudiants en guitare classique une méthode plus structurée pour apprendre à lire dans les positions supérieures de l'instrument. Il a été conçu en pensant aux jeunes étudiants, mais peut également être utilisé par des élèves de tous âges. En tant qu'enseignant de jeunes guitaristes, j'ai constaté un besoin de matériel aidant les élèves à explorer les registres supérieurs du manche. Par nécessité, j'ai commencé à créer des duos pour élèves et enseignants, afin d'introduire ces positions de manière plus systématique.

Pour des raisons de concision et de praticité, j'ai limité l'étude aux positions deux, quatre, cinq, sept et neuf, en supposant que l'élève maîtrise déjà la première position. Ces positions sont les plus courantes dans les répertoires de guitare classique pour débutants et intermédiaires.

Le livre est divisé en deux sections :

Première section : une étude des différentes positions, en se concentrant sur les cordes une, deux et trois, ce qui permet des étirements plus faciles pour les petites mains.
Deuxième section : reprise des mêmes positions, cette fois en mettant l'accent sur les cordes quatre, cinq et six, tout en incluant un travail de révision sur les trois premières cordes.
Il est supposé que l'élève a une connaissance de base de l'appui libre (rest stroke) ainsi qu'une familiarité avec les figures rythmiques les plus courantes.

J'espère que ce livre sera à la fois musicalement et pédagogiquement enrichissant pour l'enseignant et l'élève, et qu'ils prendront plaisir à l'utiliser.
