Sometimes referred to as the 'Portsmouth Hornpipe', 'Portsmouth' is a traditional English dance tune, which appeared in the 11th edition of John Playford's The Dancing Master in 1701. In the 1950s it was used as the signature tune for BBC television series Billy Bunter. Mike Oldfeld's arrangement of if charted at no.3 in the UK in 1976.
The piece has become synonymous with English football club, Portsmouth F.C., who play the tune before games at their home stadium, Fratton Park.
