The piece is a pastiche of Bach's Baroque style where a melody line is interspersed with a pedal note as heard in the famous Fugue in D minor. In the UK it was used as the theme music to the long running sports show 'Ski Sunday' and in the USA during the 1980s it was used as the theme to the religious radio show The World Tomorrow.
In this arrangement for Flute, Clarinet and Bassoon the melodic content is shared across all the instruments. Performance needs to sensitively blend the melody from instrument to instrument and keep the accompaniment from drowning the tune.
