Odani Castle

_______________________Odani Castle was a powerful mountain-top castle in medieval Japan. During the 1500’s, it was the home of the Azai clan and was considered to be undefeatable. However, the castle fell in 1573 during Oda Nobunaga's siege. While only the ruins of a few stone walls and moats remain today, it is regarded as one of Japan's Five Greatest Mountain Castles. With an authentic oriental sound, POEM OF ODANI CASTLE reflects upon the beauty of the mountain location, the glorious structure of the castle, and the dreadful turmoil of battle.FEATURES:Generous cross-cueing (Oboe cued in Clarinet, Horns cued in Trumpets/Trombones, etc.)Colorful, active Percussion partsLimited range demands on Trumpet IPlayable without double reeds (Oboe, Bassoon)PERCUSSION:Parts for 6 or more percussionists; Playable by 4 percussionists if mallet parts are omitted; Percussion part is presented in score format for ease of part covering; Mallet parts can be omitted if necessary; Gong/Tam-tam is necessary.Included is a SITE LICENSE (non-transferable) granting permission to print/photocopy as many copies as needed for use by your school. Wow

I bought this piece on a chance and it is really nice - exciting. A lot of work to print, but that's what a band librarian is for :)

Impressive

Never heard of this composer but I really like the work. The orchestration is excellent with good cueing options if you don't have oboe, etc. As the write-up says, it has a nice oriental/Japanese sound to the work but not trite. Great for expanding repertoire.
