By Rudy Apffel. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Rudy Apffel. This edition: pdf, streaming. 19th Century, Baroque, Classical, Romantic Period. Score. 58 pages. Rudy Apffel #1141931. Published by Rudy Apffel (A0.1569929).
Plies, Ronds de Jambe a Terre and Adagio are typically the slowest exercises in the ballet class barre, and in more advanced class Plies and Ronds de Jambe are executed from first to second side without stopping, making them the longest exercises. Many teachers interpolate counted balances between the two sides of Plies, and some teachers interpolate an uncounted free stretch between the sides of Ronds Jambe, but the pieces in this collection designated for Plies and Ronds de Jambe are all 16 sets of 8 counts long. An accompanist using these pieces should have no difficulty repeating parts of the score to accommodate interpolations between sides. Adagio in ballet class is traditionally 2 or 4 sets of 8 counts on each side. The pieces in this collection designated “short” Adagio are 2 sets of 8 on each side, and those designated “long” Adagio are 4 sets of 8 on each side.
It hardly need be said that a piece of music for Plies may be well suited to Rond de Jambe and vice-versa unless there is a constraint as to meter, and music for Adagio may well suit both Plies and Ronds de Jambe unless there is a constraint as to length. The labelling of pieces in this collection is descriptive, not prescriptive.
