As the title suggests Pleasure for Band is a pleasant composition it is based in five equal parts. The first movement makes use of A-B-A form, with the A theme having a bright joyous character and the B theme having a contrasting more lyrical feel. This work will make an idea encore for any concert.
Pleasure for Band - 'Vergnügen für Orchester' - ist ein brillantes, spritziges Werk für eine variable fünfstimmige Instrumentierung. Kees Schonenbeek versuchte, den fünf Teilen gleiches Gewicht zu geben. Im ersten Satz wird ein schöner Kontrast zwischen einem fröhlichen Staccato und einem lyrischen, in marcato gehaltenem Teil herausgearbeitet. Der zweite Satz erfordert ein gutes Gleichgewicht zwischen Melodie und Begleitung. Der dritte Satz ist eine richtige Shownummer. Hier sind Staccatospiel, genauer Rhythmus und kontinuierliche Dynamik gefragt. Dieser dritte Satz ist auch eine ideale Zugabennummer.
