Composed by Leigh Harline; Paul J. Smith. Arranged by Eric R. This edition: pdf. 20th Century, Broadway, Film/TV, Musical/Show. Score. 8 pages. Overture & Storybook Musical Arrangements #1358328. Published by Overture & Storybook Musical Arrangements (A0.1798080).
'The Blue Fairy' is a soundtrack cue from Disney's animated classic Pinocchio (1940) with dramatic scoring composed by Leigh Harline and Paul J. Smith (also known for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, 1937). In this scene, The Blue Fairy appears while Geppetto is asleep, and grants his wish by bringing his beloved puppet to life. She then dubs Jiminy Cricket responsible for Pinocchio's conscience, before disappearing into the starry night sky.
This cue introduces the Blue Fairy's musical motif (for both her entrance and exit, which are revisited at later points in the film). "When You Wish Upon a Star" is presented as an instrumental in 3 different iterations (chorus and verse). Jiminy Cricket's leitmotif is also featured (2 iterations, both in G major).
Pinocchio earned 2 Academy Awards for the Walt Disney Studios, Best Music (Original Score) and for Best Music (Original Song) for "When You Wish Upon a Star". Orchestrations the film's score were done by Edward Plumb, Frederick Stark, and Charles Wolcott.
This arrangement for solo piano is a reduction of the full orchestra, and is suited for Intermediate pianists. Chords are marked throughout.
