Pictor is a southern hemisphere constellation named by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille from his observations at the Cape of Good Hope, Africa in the seventeenth century. The name was shortened from Equuleus Pictoris (Painter’s Easel). This faint constellation has three stars with known planets, and several galaxies that can be seen through a strong telescope. From “88 Constellations” a collection by Heather Cattanach featuring one piece of piano music for each of the 88 constellations (to match the number of keys on a standard piano).
