Pavane: Dance Liturgique pour Orgue dates from 1969 , during an exceptionally productive compositional period (1968- 1970) in Proulx's career. It was also during this time that he left his position at the Church of the Holy Childhood in Saint Paul, MN, and relocated to the Pacific Northwest. Proulx first made reference to Pavane in a letter to GIA dated September 1970, noting that the final version of the work was "in preparation." The piece was never submitted for publication at that time, but Proulx returned to it shortly before his death, along with a number of other older pieces he felt worthy of publication. GIA is proud to offer this edition as part of the Richard Proulx Legacy Series.
