Volume 1 starts from square one, assuming no previous training, with exercises that are so carefully sequenced that the students are quickly singing four-measure phrases and eight measure songs in two parts and finding it easy! Students are introduced to notes, rests, meter, pitch and unison/2-part songs in Vol. 1, and continue in Vol. 2 with dotted rhythms & syncopation, keys & key changes and more 2-part songs. Excellent Sight-Singing Resource for Young Choirs

Achievable Progress and Enjoyment!
As an adult learner, I found 'Patterns of Sound' Vol. I so encouraging. It really does start simply, making me feel successful right away with the short phrases and two-part songs. The methodical approach to notes, rests, and pitch is so clear. It’s helping me develop my vocal reading and part-singing skills for my community choir without feeling overwhelmed. Highly recommend!

Great sight-singing course
I love using Patterns of Sounds to teach my choirs how to read music! It is great for younger students (actually meant for elementary and early middle school), but it's so thorough and methodical that I'm even using it with my high schoolers this year!
