Although he grew up in poor circumstances his extraordinary musical talent was soon recognized and he received organ lessons, then – assisted by a patron – he entered the Busseto Gymnasium.
Scored here for Clarinet Quintet, his setting of the “ Pater Noster “ is a lovely piece originally written for five part vocal. It is an eternal religious subject set to more progressive harmonies.
