I was just making things up and doing what I thought sounded good. Years later in High School I took that and worked it into a quartet for my friends and I who liked to read Lucky Chops transcriptions. It is here it gained the title, Passionate Balladier, a nickname our jazz band alto solo recieved during a competition edjudication. Then the final iteration came in college, I morphed the piece and re-arranged it for 5-saxophones during the covid year for the UWEC Sax Quintet.
This piece for sax quintet (SATTB or SAATB) explores a variety of themes, reminiscent of the flowing 8th notes of pieces like Percy Grainger's Molly on the Shore, and John William's Olympic Fanfare and Theme. Enjoy this journey exploring the open sounds and dynamic ranges each of the saxophone voices brings to the table.
