A few years ago, I asked my friend Bernard Piris, maestro, concert performer and composer of rare elegance, to dedicate a work for solo guitar to me. And little by little, like a great goldsmith, he wrote a Partita in four movements, where nothing is superfluous and nothing is missing in its exquisite construction.
The work begins with a Prelude on a succession of campanela harmonies, a presentation of captivating sounds, in the style of the improvised introductions of the baroque lute.
The second piece, a Dance based on an ostinato of amalgamated measures, carries and pursues a restless and tense melody...
The following movement is a calm and meditative Elegy, of profound lyricism, crossed by a second, more animated theme which does not lose the beauty of the feelings.
We thus arrive at the fourth piece, brilliant and energetic, in a moto perpetuo of arpeggios, interrupted by sequences of accented chords... A piece of remarkable and relentless instrumental virtuosity!
Bernard's musical language evolves wonderfully, without limits, year after year. I had the pleasure of creating the Partita at the Drôme de Guitares festival in Valence (France), during which the piece Détours, for guitar orchestra, was also heard for the first time, and which includes a sincere tribute from Bernard to our mutual friend, the French guitarist Roland Dyens.

À propos de la Partita pour guitare solo de Bernard Piris, par Eduardo Isaac…

Il y a quelques années, j’ai demandé à mon ami Bernard Piris, maestro, concertiste et compositeur d’une rare élégance, de me dédier une oeuvre pour guitare solo. Et peu à peu, à la manière d’un grand orfèvre, il a écrit une Partita en quatre mouvements, où rien n’est superflu et rien ne manque dans son exquise construction.
L’oeuvre commence par un Prélude sur une succession d’harmonies en campanela, une présentation de sonorités captivantes, à la manière des introductions improvisées du luth baroque.
La deuxième pièce, une Danse basée sur un ostinato de mesures amalgames, porte et poursuit une mélodie agitée et tendue…
Le mouvement suivant est une Élégie calme et méditative, d’un profond lyrisme, traversée par un second thème plus animé qui ne perd pas en beauté des sentiments.
On arrive ainsi sur la quatrième pièce, brillante et énergique, dans un moto perpetuo d’arpèges, interrompu par des séquences d’accords accentués… Un morceau d’une virtuosité instrumentale remarquable et implacable !
Le langage musical de Bernard évolue merveilleusement, sans limites, année après année. J’ai eu le plaisir de créer la Partita au festival Drôme de Guitares à Valence (France), lors duquel la pièce Détours, pour orchestre de guitares, a également été entendue pour la première fois, et qui comporte un hommage sincère de Bernard à notre ami commun, le guitariste français Roland Dyens.
