It is ideal for students straddling the line between grade one and grade two pieces. While it is written in F major which may be unfamiliar to some students at this level, the familiarity of the tune helps them recognize when they are not following the key signature. The clarinet part is mostly in the chalumeau, with clarion sections not crossing the break until the very end, when there is a "show-off" run for them to perform. The bass clarinet part does not ever leave the chalumeau register and is written a grade lower than the rest of the piece, but still has a short solo section to allow this student to shine. Difficult rhythms are usually doubled so students can rely on each other. The trumpet one part reaches a high D, but the second part stays at treble clef C and below. Each player gets a featured section to let them shine. The trumpet parts could also be played by clarinet players who are comfortable crossing the break if desired.
