Terrific scale building book

My go-to for students transitioning out of beginner into and through intermediate, whereafter they move to Taffanel-Gaubert or perhaps Reichert. Works scales up to 4 sharps and flats, along with relative minors, chromatics and some other patterns, with changing rhythms (but not too complicated) and articulations, thus better making the student more prepared for more challenging repertoire. Range C1-A3; also handy for that level of student. Another reason I use this: younger students generally freak some when they see sixteenth notes. Working through this book helps them to chill on that reaction, mentally and physically, for more confident playing on the other side. And of course, tone and articulation work is always also at the forefront when working on such technique material and I adapt the exercises for this purpose, per where the student is at.

Great intermediate scale book

For flutists who have mastered basic scales in 4 flats/sharps, this book introduces patterns and scales starting on all the scale degrees, which I find particularly helpful. This book is a precursor to the Taffanel-Gaubert Daily Exercises for students at an intermediate level.
