The Paganini Variations are based on a theme from the first of Paganini’s Centone di Sonate MS112.

The variations were originally scored for violin, mandolin, and guitar – the three instruments which Paganini played. The piece was commissioned by the Paganini Guitar Festival, Parma, Italy, and the first performance took place next to Paganini’s tomb on 27th May 2023, with Guilio Plotino – violin, Carlo Aonzo – Mandolin, and Giampaolo Bandini – guitar.

This version, for violin and guitar, was a collaboration with violinist Max Baillie, who made the solo violin part considerably more virtuosic. The piece has been recorded by Max Baillie and Francisco Correa on Landscape and Memory (Deux-Elles, 2024).

La pièce a été commandée par le Festival de Guitare Paganini, à Parme, en Italie, et la première représentation a eu lieu à côté de la tombe de Paganini le 27 mai 2023, avec Guilio Plotino au violon, Carlo Aonzo à la mandoline et Giampaolo Bandini à la guitare.

Cette version, pour violon et guitare, a été réalisée en collaboration avec le violoniste Max Baillie, qui a rendu la partie de violon solo considérablement plus virtuose. La pièce a été enregistrée par Max Baillie et Francisco Correa sur l'album Landscape and Memory (Deux-Elles, 2024).
