Pachelbel's Canon and Gigue by Johann Pachelbel Saxophone Quartet - Digital Sheet Music

By Johann Pachelbel

Pachelbel's Canon is the name commonly given to a canon by the German Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel in his Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo (German: Kanon und Gigue für 3 Violinen mit Generalbaß) (PWC 37, T. 337, PC 358). It is his most famous composition. It was originally scored for three violins and basso continuo and paired with a gigue. Both movements are in the key of D major. The present arrangement for Saxophones was originally written in December 1976 when I was just out of high school. Now that I am older and somewhat wiser, I have decided to revise the arrangement. Purists will note that the original key of D major has been changed to that of D flat major, which is a more saxophone-friendly key. Also, my original did not include the Gigue, which has been added here. The arrangement can be performed by SATB or AATB Saxophone Quartet, as well as by SATB,Bs or AATB,Bs Saxophone Quintet. In the case of quartet performances the baritone saxophone player should play the bass cues as well. I hope you enjoy my arrangement of this classic work of Pachelbel.
