The first in a series of bassoon and tuba duets, perfect for recitals and church with an enchanting and meditative simplicity. Psalm 130 “Out of the Depths’ For intermediate High School players. National Association of Composers/USA web radio broadcasts, International Music Artsbuild Program premiered the piano version. I wrote this when I still had a lot of imagination and creative energy in Harper’s Ferry. I could hear the Berlin Philharmonic 10 cellos or a cello and a bass as the main timbre. I tried my hand at minimalism and additive rhythms like my heroes Arvo Part and Igor Stravinsky. My husband and I love the low tone colors and depth of insight on life we get from scriptures, it causes friction sometimes to live in close quarters and want to plumb the depths emotionally and spiritually. Here the pairing of bassoon and tuba makes a unique blend of tone colors that highlight the best feautures of the two instruments that rarely get to play duets together.
