An arrangement of the well-known standard from the Great American Songbook. The style of this piece draws on the work of Gordon Jenkins, Nelson Riddle, Don Sebesky, and others.
Written for the following instrumentation:
· Jazz combo: solo trumpet (version for alto saxophone included), bass, drums;
· One solo wind player from the orchestra: horn in F;
· String orchestra.
The rarely heard verse of the song is part of the arrangement. A short, improvised solo has been written for the jazz soloist; the chord symbols are indicated in the part. Bass and drums parts are indicative.
These pieces were originally written for the Dutch trumpeter Menno Daams and the Heemsteeds Philharmonic Orchestra. Dutch arranger Peter Stöve was involved as arranger/conductor/tuba player in the documentary orchestra “The Beau Hunks,” and as musical director in Dutch productions of the musicals “Annie” and “Grease,” among others.
