This overture for orchestra is a great introduction to "modern" music. The piece is much easier than it sounds. Everyone but the first violins is nearly always in first position, double stops include an open string, sixteenth-note passages are all scalular. The harmonies are quartal, and there are changes of meter. Every section but the basses get a turn at the simple melody. And it's sure to be a hit with audiences as well.
