Buxtehude ist gut!
This is no beginner music, first off to say. There are pedal solos in sixteenth notes that would challenge even the most seasoned professional. However, this is not to say that Buxtehude's work is that difficult. It's just that one is not going to go through this volume of work at a very quick pace, unless you have all week and countless hours to do it! Musically, Buxtehude is the progenitor of Bach, who was much influenced by the former composer, and is at his best with Praeludiums and Fugas. My personal favorite, which appears not in this volume, but the 2nd volume is the Toccata und Fuga in F-Major. Sight-reading is hard with Buxtehude, but with a relaxed and slow tempo one can easily work any of these pieces up to recital level. I recommend this book highly to any advanced-intermediate to advanced organist who is looking for that something special to play either before or after Mass.
