This gentle, imaginative piece for beginner piano students is based on a whole tone scale and can be easily taught by rote in the first few lessons. Flowing hand-over-hand patterns and a wide range of the keyboard create a sense of exploration, while the undulating melody rises and falls like fish swimming through calm ocean waves. A descending whole tone passage dips down to the soft ocean floor, followed by a final phrase that lifts the music back upward, suggesting the fish continue on their journey.

This piece is recommended for early elementary level students.
