The pieces in this collection are among the very first that I wrote for solo piano, aside from a couple projects when I was going to college. They cover a wide variety of styles and were influenced by some of my favorite composers: Schubert, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Prokofiev and Scriabin. You may also detect a note or two of Sondheim as his musicals contain some of my favorite music: “Into the Woods,” “Sunday in the Park with George” and “Sweeney Todd.”
You can find recordings of the works on various streaming platforms (Amazon Music, Spotify, Soundcloud) performed by my dear friend and colleague of many years, Michael Swedberg. I owe him a great debt of thanks for acting as a sounding board during the composition of these preludes and for always encouraging me to keep creating.
