This exciting work for string orchestra features thematic material taken from songs of the 12th -14th century Pilgrim Road to Jerusalem. Technically demanding, the driving thematic materials of the opening and closing sections alternate between arco melodies and pizzicato countermelodies. The middle, plaintive section balances the outer frenetic sections. It's a unique piece that works equally well for winter and spring concerts.
