The bright, syncopated organ part sets the scene for the joy at the birth of Jesus. The text mixes both Latin and English:On the birthday of the Lord, angel choirs with one accord sing in dulci jubilo, Gloria uni Deo! The mixed meter and sudden harmony changes will be a gratifying challenge for choirs. The lyrical third verse provides an effective contrast to the rest of the carol.
