Richard DeLong (19511994) completed his SATB Christmas anthem Of a Rose, a Lovely Rose in 1993, the year before his untimely death. His setting of this well-known Medieval verse translated by Brian Stone features DeLongs trademark use of gentle melodic lines and accessible tonal harmonies touched by just enough chromatic note to let one know that it was written by a 20th-century composer.
