This melody, composed by Hans Leo Hassler, and harmonized by J.S. Bach, is most known for being set to the Passiontide words "O Sacred Head Sore Wounded."
Bach famously used the melody, known as "Herzlich tut mir verlangen" in the great Saint Matthew Passion. It has since been set to many other lyrics, and thus is appropriate for reconciliation services, Palm Sunday and Good Friday.
This partita is a set of three variations composed in a Baroque style. You can use each variation separately or together.
