This sacred motet sets a traditional Latin text that reflects on the wonder of Christ’s birth and the humility of the animals witnessing it. Poulenc’s setting is characterized by rich harmonies, unexpected modulations, and an intimate, expressive quality that conveys both reverence and awe.
This brass band transcription remains true to the choral original, emphasizing its lyrical phrasing and warm textures. It would be a beautiful addition to a Christmas program. This arrangement is written without percussion.
