This inspired anthem displays the melodic gifts of Richard Busch as well as his keen sensitivity to text. The text itself is from John Henry Newman and asks God for "a holy rest" when the day is done. The music supports the varied emotions of the text in both quietude and agitation with a switch from C major to E major. The four part writing in the central section is challenging in the harmonic changes yet gratifying in the use of the entire vocal range. The piece ends in the same quiet spirit in which it began. Choirs of more advanced skills will enjoy this addition to the anthem repertoire for Evensong.
