♫ I first heard this song as a child in a California public school general music class. I have loved it ever since. The Latin lyrics are a stanza of ‘Sacris Somemniis’ a hymn written by Thomas Aquinas in the 13th Century to celebrate the body of Christ in the Roman Catholic mass. Romantic period composer César Franck set the Latin text to music in 1861. The English words are a prayer to God. For several years I have wanted to create a piano solo version, but couldn’t get free from the styling of the piano/organ accompaniment versions I had heard.
